Someone kindly removed this from my parked NA the other day.
If anyone has a spare, I'd like to hear from them. How common is the petrol cap to other models (eg P - type)?

If the N-Type has the same bayonet fitting as the P-Type, it would be a good idea to get a repro. or secondhand motorbike chrome cap - as used on many pre- and post-war British bikes - and substitute that when you leave the car.

Hi John, I have an extra cap if you still are looking for one.

Bob - a good idea. However, if Chris's cap is the correct one for the NA, then the one I lost was a bike one as you suggested. It is a bayonet fitting.
Chris - many thanks for the offer. Is this correct for an NA - and is it a bayonet fitting? If so, how much would you seIl it for? I am confused by the variety of standard and after-market caps used by MG in the 1930s.
Perhaps someone can steer me down the path of fuel filler righteousness!

John - It came off my N forty years ago, looks the same as an original P to me but I'm sure there will be a response to confirm if this suits your needs. I suspect $65.00 would be a fair price. A repro might be three times this. Best , Chris

There was also quite a lengthy thread on the subject here - http://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8431
As for trying to avoid getting the cap nicked (or losing it through forgetting to tighten it) this was the solution that Ceandess supplied me with. It works very well although dearly wouldn't deter the determined thief.

Did N types have 'dog bone' fuel filler caps?

I do not think they did, that is why I asked the question.

The filler on my N was just a plain cap without either the dog bone style or the knurled edge.
