I have just discovered that I need a pair of SU carburettor float chamber caps. These have been described as " Forward outlet right hand" but look like this -
The cap is about 2" in diameter. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is another image of the type of cap I need with or without fittings. Commonly seen on J-types.

The caps shown in second photo are very common on T type and MGA cars. Available in left ( #1190 ) or right inlet( #1191 ) , usually tickler pin is blanked off on later units but the hole can be opened up if you wish a tickler pin. I have carb parts in Canada, expensive to mail to UK. Bob Canada |

These may well still be available new, there is something very similar shown in the 2012 issue of the SU catalogue.
Parts AUE251 and AUE252

I simply copied the previous images off the internet as approximations and indeed the tickler is not essential but the right handedness and 2" size are important. I suspect the T and MGA sizes were larger - possibly 2 3/8" ?.
This looks close to what I need-

When you get the correct lids, Sam, then you'll need some nice curly nickel plated pipework to go with them
Simon J J3437 P.S, Notice the black painted bellhousing - looks so much better than red don't you think? |

And shows up well your theory about the J's carpet Simon; it certainly would look a little weird if the bell housing were red!
Is this a recent pic, i.e., is the box back in now?
Cheers,

Sam,
According to theBurlen SU website the float chamber for the J2 is the T1 which is 2" in diameter - see http://sucarb.co.uk/float-chambers-spares/float-lid-assemblies.html
The T type ones are 2 3/8"
Dave,
Yes, the box is back in and all seems to be working well. The clutch will be getting a test tomorrow as, weather permitting, the Ulster Centre is running an AutoSOLO and I'm planning to enter.

Simon's J2 was going very nicely today at the Ulster Centre Autosolo .
I particularly admired Simon's carburettor float chamber lids.

Is it normal for J carbs to not have jet return springs? Just wondering.

Thanks Simon. I spent ages trying to work out how to fit return springs to twin M Type carbs which don't have springs at all. Clearly I needn't have bothered.
