Dear All

I wonder if there are any millionaires with maritime tendencies amongst our numbers, particularly perhaps our Scottish members?

Chauncy Maples is ashore at Monkey Bay on Lake Malawi following the decision to abandon her restoration. She was built on the Clyde, taken to pieces, shipped to Dar es Salam and carried by porters to Lake Nyasa (the boilers towed by oxen) reassembled and used for missionary work up and down the lake. She joined the Royal Navy and saw action in WW1. When I saw her in 2009 she was still afloat, her hull still exhibiting the elegance of the style of her time.

The plan had been to refit her and use her as a hospital ship and much work had been carried out but I presume now the charity will buy new.

References are here. She is special. Any millionaires out there?

Cheers

P

Must say I like the hull shape but that superstructure really let's her down.
Just like someone put a box wit some holes on it
