Not so much seeking information, but just to enjoy;
Interesting how each country seemed to use different type fonts on shopfronts etc. at least up to the 1960's. Sent in by Jos Wantz, founder of the Cercle Triple M Luxembourg (ex J4288).

Thanks for sharing the picture with us John, a lovely atmospheric period scene.
I think the J2 looks fabulous particularly from the low vantage point. (Wonder if they are visiting from Gt Britain with the Union Flag on the bonnet? )
No wonder the driver looks so smug, he's got the car and got the girl !!

Good point Chris, I didn't see that. It was the hairdos that said "continental" to me, but maybe with the screen down that was you ended up anyway.

The photos I have of my J2 in its youth are also from a similar vantage point, probably because they were taken with a Box Brownie with a waistlevel viewfinder. There's no doubt this low level sets our cars' lines off very well.
The gap between the rear wheel and the wing seems larger than normal?
P.S. No polished fins on the brake drums![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

No Simon, just a polished tread on the spare. Rather like my front tyres were in the '60s. On the rears there were zigzags of darker colour where the tread had been.

Agreed, Sir, however I must point out if I may that it is rather essential for the gentleman to maintain a proper appearance even at speed.
The gentleman obviously chooses not to wear a hat which undoubtably would impair said gentleman's debonair appearance !

The young man's hair style was very much the fashion for J2 drivers in the 30s ![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

Another low vantage point shot, Simon. You could well be right about the Box Brownie camera which as you say needed to be held at waist level during operation. I am old enough to remember them well !

The offside front tyre looks a tad worn...!
I also remember box Brownie cameras, must be getting ancient.

Tom,
I looked into trying to get a luggage rack that would fit the J2 but the ones available commercially are designed for P Types and similar where the chassis extends behind the rear cross tube and the vertical support for the rack is secured to this extension. I never did find one that would work on a J2.

Simon, I had a luggage rack on my J2. It required a couple of holes in the rear chassis rail and an extension tube on each side as the rack was a bit wider than the chassis rails, but it worked. It's still in the garage, so I would be happy to part with it.

Thanks, Lew, but in the end I settled for a waterproof bag that straps to the spare wheel. I suspect that putting anything on a luggage rack would make rear visibility non existent!
