Hello Tom, Back in the 60s the reg No EV 7125, I'm fairly sure, was on an F type 4 seater (F1172) and I think the John you referred to might have been John Stacey if my memory serves me right, who had the MG spares business in the Paddington area in a place called Elnathan Mews. Can any of you old timers out there confirm If I'm right? Don't know who the Giles referred to was. Check out Ian Ross's website for a picture of F1172 being raced back in those days. Cheers, Mike.

EV 7125 is F1172, originally an F tourer now believed to be in NZ with Patrick O'Connell. The John would have been John Stacey who had the car in 1964
JB 4608 is NA0519, believed to be with the Beer collection.
OJ 9483 is the car known as J4004, the ex-Geoff Coles car and now in Germany
PJ 8774 is J2090 currently recorded as owned by Michael O'Toole in the UK. Recorded as having P-type front and rear wongs and 12" brakes.Previous known owners include A.B.W. Phillips 4/63, J.F. Saunders 10/63, J.A. Bolt 6/64-7/99

Two photographs of John Stacey's car taken at Abingdon in 1964 at an MGCC event.
He was very helpful to Dad and myself regarding questions about F types.

Dick,
I am not sure what you mean when you say 'OJ 9483 is the car known as J4004, the ex-Geoff Coles car and now in Germany'. The Register do not list it as J4004.

Peter, you are of course correct – and I thought I was being so careful with my wording!

Dick & Peter, what's the story here? There is no OJ9483 in my 2014 Register. J3761 is listed as having the J4004 body, but it is registered OPG319. J4004 has a blank listing, apart from saying where the body is. Are you both being too careful with your wording, or do I need to get a new Register.

Colin,
All I will say is the car is not listed in the Register intentionally. The story is too long and complicated to tell here.

Duncan thanks you for the inputs, it jogged his memory! The John was indeed John Stacey, who went on to help him with an NB rebuild. Giles was Giles Saunders, J Saunders was his father (first name forgotten) |

Is it not J4006 which was the car in which Geoff Coles crashed fatally which is now in Germany and which has disappeared from the 2017 Register having had Register number 391 for fifty years or so?

If you buy a copy of Karl Wiessmann's book "The Hawke History of MMM Competition Cars" the matter of Geoff's two J4s (?) is clarified as well as it ever will be.
What a shame that Geoff (without doubt one of the straightest guys known to man) did not live long enough to unravel the puzzle himself for us.

Colin,
Naturally I have the 'Hawke History' both first and second editions. I was just curious why J4006 was no longer listed on the Register after being there for fifty odd years.

Simon,
J4006 IS LISTED, it is J4004 that is not.
