Looks rather strange to me! Looks as if the rear of the car has been extended and extra doors added.
A Drop head with 4 Doors?
Hood and side screens are also pretty "saggy" as if made for another car.
Quite odd?

No doubt this will be of interest to the SVW fraternity...

Much excitement in the SVW fraternity, feedback of which I repeat here:
1. An interesting picture, on first impression the car appears to be a rare WA Tourer. In the glass refection above the car I can read "Limited" so I assume the picture is taken in an English speaking country. The Registration number appears to be 122 57 or is the "1" a "J" indicating Jersey?. The rather tatty hood and the outlines of the aircraft in the shop window indicate the picture was probably taken post war.
I have circulated the picture around the SVW committee to see if they can give any further information.
2. Lovely photo! To my eyes the registration looks like 122 SR.
This is likely to be one of the 8 WA Tourers ordered by The Glasgow Constabulary.
‘SR’ (if that’s what it is) was Dundee, so that perhaps makes sense. The original registrations of these 8 cars were CGE 183 TO 190 incl.
It seems the reg. configuration having numbers followed by letters started in 1953, so definitely a re-registration.
3. Would a police car have been re registered when sold on to ‘civvy street’ as this might date the picture as post 1953?
The car does not appear to have any blackout adornments which would also suggest a post war date?
4. I guess there’s a multitude of reasons it may have be re-registered – something specific to Glasgow Police decommissioning procedures, scrapped then put back on the road, exported then returned to UK…
Taken opposite Lloyds Bank somewhere, my bet is Scotland.
5. I would agree with Paul that the registration looks more like 122 SR. I’m interested to know how Jim can tell this apart from an SA Tourer? I’m not doubting it for one second but intrigued. Is it the pattern of louvres on the bonnet? In any case a very nice period picture and a shame that we have no way of tracing the car from registration records.
6. I think the dip in the front bumper gives it away. Perhaps the louvres too although not sure myself.
7. also the shape of the radiator. The SA and WA Tourer used the same body – they modified the WA chassis by cutting off the rear support brackets to take the narrow body

Is it a trade plate? It appears to have something above the lettering,

Exactly what I thought that it is a trade plate it looks as though it is only strapped on not fixed permanently. If it is the background to the plate would be red and it looks lighter in colour to the car.

I think you can see the 'normal' number plate holder below the 'trade plate', but empty of a plate. It is in the same place as the number plate on the red car.

Can't help wondering how the hinge post copes with the strain...

I'm not familiar with these cars but the 18/80 4 seater tourer has an aluminium post that holds the hinges of the two doors, thus copes with the strain easily. Are these the same?
