Hi folks, Another pretty basic question, just out of interest, is there a preferred size and supplier of body panel pins? Obviously there are various supplies advertised on the net. Our local timber yard closed down last year, so over the counter stuff is now harder to get around here. Sorry to keep asking basic questions but I have no where else to ask…. Regards, Bruce

It was, hence the time travel question. I make no apology for my spasmodic "futile imagination!" |

If you or a friend is traveling to France, all the major DIY stores have a selection of stainless steel pins in various lengths and thicknesses. I used 1.8 mm X 16mm and 1.8mm X20mm. I skinned both bodies in aluminium and found that with careful support they would punch through the metal with no pilot and give an "excellent" fix by this method. The important thing is to use pins with a flat head as opposed to what are sold here as panel pins.

An interesting question. I've just looked on ebay and stainless steel flat headed pins can be bought from half an inch upwards. I might give them a try because my Japaned pins rusted at the head. Because I didn't use an inter-layer this meant I got little raised bumps in the fabric covering. |
