A totally direct connection could in the long run cause damage to the splines on the input shaft of the ENV75, so in my opinion a flexible connection is more advantageous. You can couple the enginge with the preselector using two M-type prop shaft flanges, because they have the same splines as the input shaft of the ENV75, and on the other hand it is not difficult to fix an M-type propshaft flange to the clutch spigot housing. I ran a Riley 6 sports car for many years with a solid drive and had no adverse problems whatever. The gearbox was an Armstrong preselector. Perhaps I was fortunate? Chris
