Thanks for the offer Mike
However, I would like the centre post intact.
Current bowl has the post replaced with a stud, nut and "O" ring at the base.
Not that flash and difficult to recover.

regards
Ian

Just a note. You are probably aware of the tendency of the originals to break. Both my originals broke over my 23 years of ownership (PA). Later ones have a reinforcing buttress. You can find used later ones cheap and also buy them new.

The second one broke as I was crossing the Golden Gate bridge, believe it or not! I felt gas on my bare leg but kept it going to get off the bridge before parking it. Very exciting.

I have found one of each hand; later ones with the buttress as Dan mentioned.

I would prefer to keep them as spares but if all else fails and you are unable to source one elsewhere, then I could part with one.

FYI. Here is how mine broke and a photo of the original J2/P style bowls.

I was disappointed that an 85 year old inexpensive part should break like that!

Cheers,
Dan

Dan, what is the fuel feed pipe like; solid or flexible? If solid does it have a good loop in it to give some flex?

A rigid feed pipe between the carbs causing even a small additional stress on the float chamber can, over time, lead to fatigue failure.

One solution is to fit a supporting strap from the top of the float chamber(central stud) to a point on the main body of the carburettor. This was done with the T4 float chamber(admittedly bigger) on Q,R and K3 models.

Interesting reading about your adventures on the Golden Gate Bridge Dan.

These bowls are certainly fragile even T type and MGA ones.

Probably better to get a new one if possible
I'll investigate either Burlen or Midel in Sydney and see what's available.

Will keep you posted.

cheers

Yes, I should have done something after the first one broke 20 years earlier. I just replaced the broken one and carried on. I was out of work at the time, in my defense. The lines were rubber under my stewardship but who knows what was there in the past.
We are off topic but I would agree to recommend stay away from originals for a driver car. Or carry a spare.
Thanks,
Dan

Brian Sonner of the Abingdon Rough Riders documented the humor of the situation. AAA wouldn't let me ride with the driver in the tow truck.
Thanks, Brian!
