I note this car failed to sell at the Historics auction, Ascot where the bidding stopped at £19.000. It is a 4 seat PB which I rebuilt in the mid 1970s and sold in 1984.
The car won the 2019 HERO rally and also won it’s class 3 times in thr RAC 1000 miles run. The car is supercharged and has clearly been very well maintained, the advert states over £40000 spent with much of the work done by Andy King.
Good morning, George. I’ve just spotted a Facebook posting on the Triple-M register enthusiast page which indicates that the car was in fact sold at the auction to an enthusiastic owner.
Thanks Dick. My Daughter's partner sent me a copy of the posting on Facebook. I watched the auction live and the auctioneer did not indicate the car as sold, I guess there must have been an agreement made later in the day? George
I think a more realistic and balanced view is that an auction is not a good place to sell a pre war car at present. Outside of auctions I know of quite a lot of pre war cars that have either been sold privately or discreetly through dealers all at sensible prices. In my opinion the market is most certainly not dead it has just slowed down in the current economic climate.
