I am very sorry to have to report to you the passing of Patrick Gardner last Friday.
Having only known him for 21 years, I was quite late to the party as Patrick had been involved with Triple-M M.G.s and the Register since about forever. And a party it was. Ever since I first met him at the 2004 Kimber Classic Trial, I could not help but adore him really. He was cheeky, charming, blunt, energetic, funny, kind, flirty, social, attentive, and what not. I'm sure he had some flaws too, though I myself never encountered any.
As I'm sure many people on here will have many fond memories of Patrick and know a lot more about him than I do, would you please share these happy thoughts with us?
Rest in peace, dear friend.
Cat

Oh dear, what sad news. As Cat notes Patrick was a true enthusiast in every way.
I first met Patrick in about 1971 when he bought some surplus PB body parts from me.
Rest in peace Patrick, and condolences to the family on their sad loss.
George. |

Sad news indeed. Another of the formidable Triple-M giants has taken his leave. It's up to the rest of us to keep bright the memories of all those who contributed so much to the evolution of our beloved Register. RIP Patrick.

Such sad news of an absolute gentleman! Fond memories of Patrick and his kind, charismatic ways. He made a particular effort always with my eldest son when in small person mode that left an impression that we'd all recognise. Equally loved in the Vintage Register we shall all miss him. Kind wishes to all. Rob

Very sad news. We echo everything Cat has said. Other people were important to him - when buying a "dodgy" D-type from him I was sent to buy ice creams for all his office staff as it was a hot day! Rest in peace Pat. FOZ |

A kindly gentleman. I first met Patrick when he was the Triple-M natter leader at the Black Horse pub in Gomshall. My word, was that really all of 40 years ago? Our thought and prayers to his family and all that knew him.

Such sad news indeed. Andrew and I have known Patrick for many, many, years. One particular memory that comes to mind is competing at Wiscombe Hill Climb. Andrew and I (being in our early 20’s) would travel down on the Friday night after work to meet up with Mum and Dad at the Bovey House Hotel. On arrival they would be in the restaurant, along with Patrick and others, enjoying a very lively, fun-filled meal and this was the case every year at Wiscombe.
On looking at Dad’s results folder from 1988 I can see that Patrick came 2nd in class on handicap with his K3/s Rep.
Happy times indeed and it was so lovely to see Patrick at the Summer Gathering in 2022, an event that he attended many times over the years.
Rest in peace Patrick and our condolences to all the family.
Elizabeth and Andrew

As many of you have already said Patrick was one of lifes great characters and vintage cars played a huge part in his life. I was very fortunate to call Patrick my Godfather and as Godfathers go they really don’t get much better than him. His enthusiasm for cars was infectious and he instilled his passion into me from an early age, my first experience driving a car came at the Black Horse Trials where he always encouraged the younger generation to drive his cars.
On the afternoon of my 21st birthday he arrived at my parents house in his green J2, he had added me onto his insurance policy and left the car with me for a couple of years. Which was an incredibly generous gesture or more than likely a way of making space in his garage for a new acquisition…..
Another fond memory was at a VSCC sprint at Goodwood many years ago, he had driven down in his K3 rep and parked it in the paddock. I was at the event with a few friends from university and Patrick always being one to share his passion suggested that I sit in the car and fire her up. After around 45 seconds and many blips of the throttle I received a tap on the shoulder and a rather stern look from a mysterious gentleman. Unbeknown to us we interrupted a minutes silence for someone that had passed away, I immediately apologized. After the gentlemen had turned and walked away Patrick turned to me with a smile and said “well that’s a bloody good send off if you ask me”. He has certainly passed his passion onto me and hopefully many generations to come.
He will be sorely missed. Godspeed
