Oh dear, another great enthusiat and one of the founders of the Triple-M Register has passed away. I first met Steve in 1968 when he owned Motor Master batteries in Bristol. Steve was a greatly respected figure who helped me when I bought a tired PA in Bristol for £90.
So sad that so many of my contemporaries have died.
My condolences to Madeleines, Kim and the family.

So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing . He was one of the gang of us who raced in the 60s and 70s . He was also a keen trials man if I remember correctly . At one time he owned two Cream Cracker P types . A good after dinner speaker also . Condolences to his family . Ray. |

This news makes me so sad. Steve is a MMM legend, and I will miss him greatly. Re. the trials and after dinner speaking that Ray mentioned, Steve certainly did a bit of trialing! I think his Crackers and Muskets article is essential reading for any MMM owner with even a passing interest in MG trials exploits: https://www.mgcc.co.uk/articles/crackers-muskets/ I loved his after dinner speeches back in the days of the Kimber at the Sherbourne Hotel, and I will forever think of him when listening to Jethro. What happened was... |

My condolences to Madeleine, Kim and the family. One of the greats of the MMM fraternity, a founder member who did so much to establish the register. When I was fortunate enough to buy the PA Cream Cracker that he had tracked down and purchased some years previously, he was immensely helpful, passing on not just his vast knowledge, but also photos and historic documents. A true friend who will be missed by many worldwide.RIP. |

AS a relative newcomer to the Triple-M scene it has been heart warming to read the tributes to Steve Dear. I met him on only a handful of occasions but was always aware of his formative influence in our Register and the respect in which he was - and is - held.
He was a typically characterful special guest speaker at the dinner in 2011 which marked the 50th anniversary of the Register's foundation.
Happy memories for many of us and respectful sympathies to Madeleine, Kim and the family.

So sad to hear of the passing of another great Triple M character. Steve was a brilliant bloke in every way. Always enthusiastic and always prepared to help new owners. I first met him in the early 70's when I took a dynamo down to his Motor Master batteries emporium which he duly tested for me, declared dead, but then went on to give me instructions on how to rebuild it. His Cheddar meetings were some of the best that I have ever attended and as already stated it was always a highlight when Steve stood up to talk ! A great character. My condolences to Madeleine, Kim and the family. Terry Holden

That reminds me. I remember when I started out in the vintage world in the seventies, I was a student at Bath University with my first Minor. Steve used to deliver his car batteries around the Bristol area in a pre-war Minor van. Happy days. |

How sad, another MMM legend lost to the world. Steve was almost certainly the most politically incorrect and amusing Chairman the MMM register ever had. I always looked forward to meeting up with Steve and the late Mike Hawke at Silverstone where we would share the latest jokes most of which would have the woke community of today running for the hills. Condolences to Madeleine and family.

Very sad news indeed. So many happy memories of Cheddar and Wiscombe with Steve - a real larger than life character. The memory of Steve ‘arriving’ at Wizz Corner driving his yellow peril Morris will stay with me forever. Condolences to Kim, Madeleine and the family. NW( |
