Great pictures, Sam!
I think the text on the hut in the first picture reads 'Join the Ulster Club'?!

Sam,
If we assume that the first car is new and unregistered since it has no number plate, yet it has the headlights set wide apart, I'd venture to suggest that it was taken late in the motor sport season in 1932 or the early part of the 1933 season. Cat is right - there's an exhortation to join the Ulster Club which I think was a city centre sports club (rather than anything political!)
Oliver could well be right that the second one is at Craigantlet. The CZ series ran for thirty six months from Nov 32 so that, together with the close set headlight mounts and the shiny look of the car would suggest August 1933. Craigantlet was on 26 August that year.
And obviously the go faster lads in those days fancied having two horns - see also one of the photos Cat posted where there are not only two horns but a single centre mounted passing light:serious stuff indeed. |

CZ 2093 is J3010. It is known to have competed at Craigantlet Hillclimb on 26/08/1933 (1st in class, L.R. Briggs) & also 25/08/34 (3rd in class, L.R. Briggs), so bonus points to Ollie perhaps? The car is No 2701 on the Register.
Briggs also raced several times at Phoenix Park & entered the County Down Trophy Races in 34 & 35.

Thanks to a snippet of info on Irish Reg No prefixes from Simon, the J2 behind could well be J2304 (JI 5504) which had a pre-war comp history with J.S.C Cupples of Belfast. JH |
