Hi all, This pic of K3004 I have showed over the years (since the early eighties)to several MG authorities and I have much info from it but never could somebody put a name on the person in the drivers seat or the excact location and that's what still fascinates me and the reason that I try this forum as a last option. The car is K3004 the ex-Billy Cotton car with the body from K3015 and the latest info I have comes from the well known Jay J Hall and says : K3004; post 1939, owner not known till advert/ ref in Autocar (?) owner in Nottingham; 21-5-43 for sale; Rowland Motors Byfleet (proprietor a racing driver cant trace who, think it was Charlie Martin, perhaps) Owner, 1943-50 Mr. May; his Brother, resident then in Lingfield wrote letter to Motor Sport 3-78, confirming his late brother sold K3 to Jim Gullan, Melbourne, AUS.....my guess is either Mr. May or Rowland Motors man..........Cheers, Jay Any eventualy further info very welcome, thanks, Roby Cruyswegs (PA0393 / PA0408 / PA1821) Antwerp-Belgium

Hi I remember driving to Oulton Park in the 60's through Ewloe on the outskirts of Chester and seeing what I believe was this MG in an old petrol station/garage and being informed that it used to belong to Billy Cotton. The next week I passed by and the MG had gone. |

Can't help on a definite ID on the driver, but Chas Mortimer Senior was the racing driver involved with RC Rowland Motors, which went bust in 1949. Mr Rowland himself had done some trials driving in the 1930s. |

It could well be Charlie Martin. I found the following photo of he and Charles Brackenbury in the August 1980 issue of Motor Sport.

Ralph. The car you saw at Ewloe in the 60s was not a K-Type. I am pretty sure it was either a Lester MG (possibly based on an L-Type ) or a 'one-off'.I will shortly be seeing my Chester based MG friends & will get more details from them & let you know. Ray. |

Ralph,
I too saw the car outside the garage in Ewloe. It certainly had a cowl similar to that on K3004, but I understood it to be an L type. I recall that the garage owner showed me an outside exhaust system which belonged to the car. Someone told me that Barry Walker had bought it, and maybe he could shed some light on its origins?
Apologies for deviating from the main topic.
