I found and bought these two photos of J4. The seller is located in Austria, and indications background on the buildings behind the J4 seems to be in German. I think these pictures are interesting for connoisseurs and historians forum. It is with pleasure that I am sharing you.

Hello Christofer
What lovely pictures - thank you for sharing them.
I wonder if we can establish which J4 this is?

Thank you for these pictures, Christofer, They most probably show J4001 in Vienna, 1933. The driver in the first picture is its first owner R.Th. Mayer. He got the golden M.G. wings broach for setting National Hungarian Class H speed records at Tat in May 1933. In September 1933 he won the Semmering Race (up to 2000cc). The photos must be very early ones before the exhaust had to be lowered to meet Austrian regulations. Karl p.s. Terry, it had a hood like J4008 !

Very nice pics. Yes Karl I noticed the hood. Guess he was a contortionist or had very long arms. Also looks like it is fitted with lift a dots not clasp and flap arrangement. Early picture of 002 with Peggy Blathwayt also shows tonneau fitted with lift a dots.

Another picture from austria. But it is a J2 it seems? The size of the rear brake make me doubt!

Hi, it is a L2, see the side of the tank and this smal pull swith on the dash under the dip/horn switch.

With the large brakes, the dash layout and the centrally mounted electric wiper motor I'd say it's an L2 (note also the duotone paint finish and the light coloured tonneau cover!) Does it also have Adamant steering?

That's what I thought, Carl, but isn't that an Adamant set up in the car in the photo?

Agreed, Dave! And the headlights look to be the darker shade of the wings. A great photo.

it is not a German registraction number from the 1930s. But I think it must be to trace which car it is, it is not duotone red, it could be green/green or blue/blue, but I have never seen duotone grey. I think these 90 chassis files could be check easily which car this could be. have all a Merry Christmas and happy MGing in 2014, cheers Carl J2 4362 L2 2036

Note also the long Lift the DOT studs around the rear of the body enabling the tonneau cover to be fastened on top of the folded hood if desired.

Zooming in on the fittings would seem to show some sort of strap or clasp arrangement rather than Lift-the-DOTS.

Yes Simon you are right they are the flaps for the regular J4 fittings. I did not enlarge up the picture and they looked like lift a dots in the original picture. Very nice early pictures of a J4 though. With the owners permission perhaps they could go in the archive Nick.
