There must be some information available as it seems as if it was a known car as recently as 2008 and is listed in the recent Register listings. J2256 is only 9 cars newer than the J2 I recently owned (J2247)so I can assure you that engine 813A is the original engine. Mine was numbered 803AJ, before the engine decided to give itself the well-known "air cooled" modification.

They can normally be ordered from the online store. Link is on the main page under "Library Sales". However, the current Register Listing may be out of stock, as I do not see it listed.

Hi
You probably don't want the register just yet. You probably want the chassis file for your car and you get this by offering John Innis at the MG Car Club a little money. He photo copies the file and sends you the copy.
I have the file for my J2 and it gives you all the details of the car at the time of sale: chassis engine starter gearbox numbers etc, who it was sold to, colour, engine spec and any alterations to the standard spec. If there is anything odd about your car this file might just explain it...

The cost is £28. I discovered ' poppets ' first two owners from the files, addresses and various other items (eg. the car went back to Abingdon ) to get the lights sorted ( they stopped working after a short time )

The cost is not a fixed price, it depends on the size of the file and how many pages are copied.
