Does anyone know the event, date, location and identity of Car 39 in photo "Misc039" in the "Competition Cars" section of the register archive? It appears to be a J-type with number plate LVxxxx

The link:

Tim, I can't be 100% sure, but I think that this is the start of the first race in the second race meeting to be held at Donington Park. The date was 13th May 1933 and four cars started. The winner was Tommy Simister in J2745 (Reg. No AMA 64), second was Vic Derrington in J2781 (Reg. No. APF 605) and third was R Eastwood in J2023 (Re. No. LV 1162). The fourth car was an Austin driven by a Mr Sparrow who's race ended disastrously at The Hairpin, when a rear wheel collapsed and the car turned over. Sparrow got away with bruises and a bad cut to his head, but his passenger broke his thigh.

On the other hand, I might be completely mistaken, and it could be some other event entirely !

There is a photo taken a couple of seconds after this on p61 of "75 years of the J2 M.G." (Simster made a "demon" getaway) which states the same as Colin.

Many thanks gents, with the race number obscuring the front I was rather hoping it may have been LV1609 (J3753) but not to be.
Thanks again, Tim
