This is a picture of my Dad's J-Type (?) that he owned during the late 40's early 50's. According to the DVLA vehicle check it is currently taxed so may still be about. I have other pictures (and of his other MG - a P-type I believe as well) and would love to see any other pictures of this car.

Tim, a warm welcome to the Forum.
What a charming picture!
According to MGCC records and the Register's own records CZ 1693 is J2900, a red J2 which is with a Roger K Bowman of Edgbaston, Birmingham. He is a current member.
If you would care to send me an e-mail via the Forum e-mail facility containing your contact details I will endeavour to put you in touch with Mr. Bowman as I am sure there is much useful information that could be exchanged!
At the same time do please send though any other pics oyuu may have of this car ad the P type as they are always of great interest and a valuable resource for the Register's archives.

A Belfast registration - and one of only about thirty cars on the register that were originally registered in Northern Ireland. It would be interesting to have any info on its early history.

Dick- message sent! I will post the other photos shortly - I need to scan them in and crop them etc. I suspect the car is pictured at Road Research Laboratories in Harmondsworth where my father worked at the time. |

Recently found this one on Flickr where the owner of the picture, a bloke that goes by the name of 'Dom', captioned it as 'found at a village hall bazaar at Polperro, Cornwall.' He also mentioned being more than willing to pass it on to the current owner!

Lovely period pictures!
Amazing that a second photo should come to light. I reckon the second picture is a later one as the car looks to be well used, and note the state of that near side front tyre.
I would love to receive period pictures of the L2.

Couple of other pictures of the car when my father had it. One with Mum and Dad sat in it (with de rigueur flat cap)and with another MG of a colleague from Road Research.

Great to see other pictures as above, even if the car looks a little neglected... |

One final photo of father's J-type showing that the car was used every day all year round. In the 40s and early 50s few cars were produced for the home market (Export or die!) so Dad had a series of pre-war Matchless bikes and Morgan and MG sports cars as his everyday cars.

What an absolutely fantastic, 'candid' photograph!
Thanks for sharing it!
