I don't think Peter is active here, so I'll jump in. The car pictured is a very early PA (PA0255), the first PA sold. He also owns PA0251, the very first one made.

Thanks for the heads up Lew. And thanks Evan for posting those excellent photos. PA0255 is still in great shape but we haven't raced it since about 2007. It's playing second fiddle to J2594 these days. It's first life was a trials car successfully driven by Bill Haden and then by Patrick Gardner just before we bought it in 1984.
Hi Tony with the picture of PA0251. It's still safe and sound where you saw it, but not much changed Attached is a picture from the March 1934 Motor Sport announcement article (page 215). The timing is very interesting here to get a picture and short road test done for the March issue deadline. The chassis file does not include the delivery card but that for PA0252 was Feb 26th. 251 chassis was "issued" one day before 252 through 260. I note in the picture that the number plate is painted. The article is interesting in that they follow the J model designations calling for a P1 four seater, P2 2 seater and future blown P4 competition version.
Other J holdovers are non-octagonal sidelights, one J2 door latch and most interestingly rear Hartfords rather than Luvax. Plus a J4 BC steering box.
I must watch the Forum more frequently!!!!

Thanks Brian for the photo from the Abingdon Trial. I doubt the caption date of May 1939. It is definitely Bill Haden driving but I believe he had sold the car by then. According to the chassis file it was with another owner in 1937 and the last Bill Haden communication was Dec 1935. I believe Bill next owned an NA.
He regularly ran with Ken Crawford and Austen May in the Midland Centre team in 1935.
I must admit that my copy of this photo does have "Abingdon Trial 1939" hand written on the back. It has a Nat Motor Museum stamp on the back.

William Henry Haden was born in September 1897 and from 1926 was a dentist in College Road, Cheltenham. His wife was Irene Florence. I believe his first trial was the Chiltern in 1931 in an M type! Had a J2 DG 5166, J2075 for trialing in 1932, and PA DG 2535 for 1934, and then the PB in 1935. I do not think that he competed after 1935, and so the Abingdon would be in 1935.

Equally interestingly, if one looks closely at the photos of the road test J2 it would appear to have Luvax front shock absorbers and not Hartfords!
