Here is a picture I was sent sometime ago and I can't remember where it came from. What is the car? It looks like an M type but the screen isn't the correct shape. Is it a well known picture?

For the avoidance of doubt and any suggestion that Cobs has anything to do with the car:
The “Cobs” were London’s water carriers paid to bring water from the conduit heads to individual households willing to pay for their services. A day’s supply of water bought from a Cob typically cost a penny. In 1496 the London water-bearers formed a Fraternity in the Augustine Friars, the Fellowship of the Brotherhood of St Christopher of the Water-Bearers of the City of London.

Have emailed the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators, (the modern name - from Google) to ask if they could kindly tell us when it took place. Also another picture of the car from Motor Sport June 1932

Keep it coming, very interesting, especially as the screen appears to have been altered at some time. Does the car still exist?

Looks to be the Lord Mayor's Show, November 9th 1932. This is from The Times, November 1st 1932, page 9.

Easy when you know how! Just about every UK public library system offers free in-home access to The Times - some offer archives of other papers like The Guardian too. All you need is a library card.
Once you've mastered the search engine - which can be a bit quirky but is very powerful - it's a very useful resource for all sorts of research. That only took me about five minutes to find.
That year's Lord Mayor's Show appears to have been a fairly modest affair. Most of it was dedicated to the history of printing - not that you'd know that from the British Pathé coverage, which concentrates on the military bands and the British Legion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DIBjLzIWVI Still, it was just two days before Remembrance Day ... |
