Here is another outstanding picture we are able to share, rediscovered thanks to research by Chris Lambert of the Pre-War Minor Network into the LAT photographic archive. This one is simply described as "LAT Misc Photo 11 MG Dancers End" .
Does anyone know the story? What does 'OTAZADES' (edge of bonnet) refer to?

Nice pic, love the safety barrier! I have a dim and distant memory of looking through such fencing at Brands Hatch when a nipper.
Is Hades not that place to which we all hope not to go to when we have fettled for the last time?

Lovely action shot - from his position I guess the passenger usually races in motorcycle/side car events!
The registration number is not shown in the 2014 printed Register.

Great photo but I think the cricket club sweater & tie are a little out of place . Bet it didn't stay white for very long !. |

It's J2878 almost certainly driven by the owner (A. G. Sanderson) who purchased it from new. Lots of trials and hill climbs history and successes including 1st in class at Dancers End Hill Climb in 1936, 1937 and 1938, Bronze Award 30/03/34 Lands End and Premier Award 19/05/34 London-Edinburgh.

I have also tried to identify the badges fitted on my PB. In 1936.
The MCC ( Motor Cycle Club? ) badge identified by Jonathan, may have also have been fitted to my car. (far right).
I wondered if any one could identify any of the other badges?

Yes, as John says, the Dancer's End photogrqaph is of A G Sanderson in J2878. He certainly had a great deal of success with the car, but I don't think that he was a Class winner at the 6/9/38 meeting. According to my notes, he was pipped at the post by Gerry Pentony in J4136 who was a late entry and did not appear in the Programme. Pentony raced with competition number 42 and a photograph exists to prove that he was there, taking first place in both the 850cc Racing and 850cc Sports Car Classes.

Sam,
I have just realised what OTAZADES" could mean. I think it probably means "AS HOT AS HELL" but has been re-jigged to avoid upsetting anyone with a sensitive nature (such as myself).
Anyone got a better suggestion ?

"OT AZ ADES". Very clever Colin. I had wondered if it related to a 1930's energy drink similar to Lucozade.

Keith, just a little point as it is The Motor Cycling Club and not Motor Cycle Club. This club has now been going for 110 years and you can still buy from them the same car badge for the front of your PB for £29.50 plus P&P. Better still join the club and take part in some of their trials. Cheers John |

That's what I was trying to suggest with my first comment above - I was obviously too obscure!

Bob and Keith, I have consulted our good friend and world renowned expert on car badges, Bryan Ditchman and he says as follows.
AMC 12 at Dancers End. MCC Badge at top. AA badge lower left. In centre is the ACU (Auto Cycle Union) Second edition. RAC on right.
YS 5081 on Blackpool Rally. On left AA. Second left - he cannot remember which one this is, but he is working on it. Centre MGCC. First right Lancashire & Cheshire Car Club. Second right MCC.
I will write again if Bryan comes up with the missing one.
