Perhaps the following should have been added to the first posting but -
Can anyone suggest a date for this picture? Some time between 1956 and 1960?
The other cars certainly suggest France but can anything be deduced from the registration number? Is it 826 8006 or 926 8006?
Would the radiator cap and the bonnet strap and extra louvres suggest competition use?
Does the MG Car Club badge give a clue?

Is the registration number actually French? A glance at on line information suggests French registration numbers consisted of numbers and letters.

The plate looks french to me: 826 EO 06 which would conform to the old French style and gives the regional identifier as 06 but I do not know where in France that would be. Paris used to be 75, I remember that...
The citroen coming up the road dates it to after 1955 I think... was that when they first came out?
Are the shock absorbers the multi disc ones? would they indicate a J3?

06 is the Alpes-Maritimes, bottom right hand corner of France.

According to a couple of Internet sources, the decoding is as follows: nnn (or nnnn) is a 2-, 3- or 4-digit number. 926 LL (or LLL) is a 2- or 3-letter group. EO dd is a 2-digit number indicating the département in which the car is registered. 06 (Alpes-Maritimes )

Since it is this thread that has received replies, I will obviously not delete it. I have asked if there is a higher resolution image available, if one is available I will post it as well, maybe there are some more details that can be discerned. Nick

Do MG Car Club records still exist for the late 1950's and maybe include a member and his car in Alpes-Maritimes ?

This number or variations of it have been checked and do not appear in the Register's records,
