I am on the hunt for as many photos of the salonette's that we can find. Yes we have a few of the well known F and J's about but I wondered if there were any others languishing out there to be shared?

Hi Chris, I posted some of an M coupe undergoing rebuild a short while ago but I can't recall the details of the post! I can post them again if you haven't seen them...

Also some nice pics of Richard Hinton's J1 on the post entitled 'Member's Cars' - some nice other stuff too!

Graham

Graham

Hi Graham, I have seen a number of M- coupe original photos, that are interesting but alas not quite what I am after as there are quite a number of subtle differences. My D-type salonette is almost restored now with all the interior to finish off.
Richard's salonette is a lovely MG car and has been restored by Jim very well but ... there are quite a few pieces that I feel aren't quite correct in how and what has been used. So I am on the hunt to try to document as much as I can, including all the variants I come across between the D, J and F salonettes.

Dear All :

This is an interesting thread.
Why has it stalled ? Not moved
Don't know this topic, but needs more posts and photos.
How many salonettes are there out there?
All the best.

Chris

I seem to recall there was an article in MG Enthusiast on the M coupe rebuilt by Mike Allison. I do not know if the magazine keeps back copies.

Perhaps Mike may be able to assist?

Hi John, it just shows you there aren't that many original photos out there of salonettes. George, the coupe and the salonette are pretty much different cars. Hi Peter, I'm not after current photos of salonettes as that to me doesn't provide clarity to how they were presented in the 1930's. I have only 2 photos of my D-type salonette from 1964 which I believe to date that they are the ONLY D-type salonette photos! There are a few of a J1 salonette with 2 pretty ladies posing with camera a foot which I see as the very best available ... unless you can help further? So original black and white D, J1 and f1/F3 salonettes photos.
I'm getting there ...

This one of F1475 appeared on Facebook the other day. Not a lot of Salonette visible and you will surely have seen it, but still!

Cheers,
Cat

well Olly, without giving too much away ... and seeing you ask ... ultimately I intend to document and or even publish something somewhere ... about the MG Salonette.

It may well reflect my thoughts, my observations, my experiences and my problems and opportunities along the restoration path. Like an Archeologist, my interpretation may differ from others (it usually does!) but I owe it to those future custodians of our MG's who ever they may be and to share my experiences. It wont be about me, it'll be about the MG ... that is far more interesting.
