Anyone know about where I can find info on PB's that ran at Le Mans?

Looking at Le Mans Classic it states they ran 35-39. So when I did a quick search I found:

1939 Claude Bonneau and Max Mathieu
1938 Dorothy Stanley-turner, Elsie Wisdom and Arthur Dobson
1937 Capt G.E.T Eyston, Joan Riddell and Dorothy Stanley-turner
1935 Philipee Maillard-Brune, Jean Viale, F, Albert Debille

Thanks

Looking good for 2018 then Mark? :)

Go for it!

Enid Riddell was given the name "Joan" somewhere along the way and it has persisted.

Mark, I have a bit of gen about the pre war MGs at Le Mans, most of it in my article in the 2001 Yearbook. PBs only took part in '37, 38' and '39, PAs in '34 and '35, although Mike Allison has said that the Dancing Daughter PAs had PB engines. I'll send you more when I get the chance to dig it out!

Regards,
Graham

Mark, Dorothy Stanley-Turner ran her PB (PB0633) - Reg No. JB7963 in the 1937 race, accompanied by Enid Riddell and came second in their class despite several problems. The Class Winning car was Mort Morris-Goodall's Aston which stopped on the circuit with a valve problem. Dorothy was asked to find the Aston and pass a message to its driver to keep going at all costs. As a result, the Aston limped home to take the class win and Dorothy and Enid were second. She also entered the 1938 race, but went down with diptheria before the race and "Bill" Wisdom and Arthur Dobson took over the PB. Unfortunately however, the car's clutch failed after 400 miles.

On the question of the Dancing Daughters cars, they may well have been fitted with PB engines, but I think they ran as 847cc rather than 939cc. All three cars entered the MCC Torquay Trial and Rally in July 1935 and for that event were declared as having 847cc engines.

Thanks Colin. I m assuming unblown?

The French owned PB in 38 / 39 was blown with a special body. Any info on this one? Basic search on interweb ships these 2 photos:

I haven't seen those pics before. Paul Frere drove this car at Spa post war, and says in his book that it was a PB in which the owner Bonneau had had a crash. After rebuilding with the special body he competed at both '38 and '39 Le Mans, without much success. From memory (bearing in mind I am just in from the pub) he finished in '38, but not in '39.(Is that a cat flap on the back - perhaps it went like a scalded cat?)

My favourite Le Mans P is Anne Itier, who drove her standard PA in 1934, and finished at a higher speed than the Dancing Daughters managed a year later.

Regards,
Graham
