Chaps,
A question of major importance in the quest for originality! Should the screws attaching the suction wiper motor be plain brass or chrome plated? They are a hard to find size - 3BA - and Don Breakspear supplied a pair of brass ones with the wiper motor but chrome (or stainless steel) are impossible to find. The frame goes for chroming tomorrow so should I include the brass screws as well?

I think they are chromed brass screws I'll confirm tomorrow I have a few original suction motors at home. |

Thanks, Greg. Clearly the wiper will work much better with the right screws.

Thanks for the links, Bob, but they don't do the right screws which need to be raised head slotted and 3/4".

Simon take a look on eBay - there seems to be hod-loads of 3BA stuff in all guises from stainless, brass, zinc-plate etc and in various types round head, csk, raised csk etc etc
You could possibly put cheesehead ones in a lathe and make them into domehead screws assuming 3BA domeheads are not available
My search was simply "3BA screws"

Simon, both your link and the photo are what I consider a round head screw, not a raised head. A raised head is normally what us Yanks would call an oval head. Still countersunk, bot with a SLIGHTLY rounded head, not a full hemisphere. Like this:

Mark,
There are no round head slotted 3BA screws longer than 1/2" on eBay. I did actually think of looking there you know!
Lew,
You're quite right, I inadvertently referred to raised head but corrected that in my subsequent post with the picture. They are of course round head.

I know there are 3ba round head screws of the appropriate length available as they are the mounting screw for Rover P1 petrol tank senders. Try Namricks of Hove ( I use them a lot ), I possibly purchased them there. If not Simon I will see if I have spares when I am back in the UK.

Thanks for all the suggestions for where to get chrome or stainless 3BA round head slotted screws. I'd tried them all, and many more, without success before posting, but my query was whether the screws should be chrome, in which case I'll just get mine done along with the screen frame. Hopefully Greg can confirm one way or the other.

The view of the guru of suction wipers, Don Breakspear, was that the screws were probably nickel plated. Funnily enough, that's what the chrome shop recommended, so that's what I've gone for.
