I'm in need of an oil gauge for my F2 rep, so just the same as the J2 types which are ... Smiths or Jaeger? They are measured at 1 1/2" width I reckon. What pressure should the gauge go up to even when Blower states 80lbs for an F-engine?

I've got a restored 1 1/2 original smiths or jaeger for £95 plus post. They both go up to 160lb. All mmm oil gauges go up to 160lb don't know why mg used gauges what read such high poundage when most mmm cars run at 60lb. |

An oil gauge is typically calibrated for twice the normal maximum pressure. Thus 80 psi being the normal high, the gauge would be capable of reading up to 160 psi.

I'm hoping Greg can sort me out a gauge but I wondered if anyone has a photo of how they are attached to the thin chromed dash?

with a 'U' clamp held in place with a knurled nut (well in mine it is!). Not the answer if the hole in the dash is a smidgeon too big.

Ian, but on an oil gauge the central part at the rear is the oil pipe itself so it wouldnt accomidate a U-bracket and knob!? Similarly the amp gauges have 2 studs for wires that definately would take a screw thread and knob... so not sure Ian how you have got that to work ... these are 1 1/2" gauges, not the 2" or 3"!

The amp gauge you push it through the panel then there are 4 lugs under the rim which bend over and trap the gauge in place. Check the rim to see if any of the lugs are Brocken away if more than one are Brocken you'll struggle to fit it. The oil gauge had a small bracket which slides on the thread which is in the centre of the case. The thread for the pipe is offset so it's not in the way. It's exactly the same as a 2 inch gauge but on a smaller scale. Hope this helps a photo would show it all if anyone can load one on. |

That is the same as mine, and hence the 'U' clamp fits centrally. So, perhaps we are all talking about, and showing 2in gauges and, as you say, you are struggling with a 1.5in.
