I have recently found a picture of the first owner of J3 3772, shown here. Does anyone know which of the two she is, presumably but not certainly the driver!

Dear Ian and Forum:
What a great photo! I did a google search on Rt. Honorable Miss E.V. Watson. Driver in photo. Quite a lot of information came up. Picture of car, with British (registration for once) and sales details of car and a short bio of Miss Watson. She was quite a girl by all accounts. Sorry cant figure out how to do links via forum. If I can find them you can too. Possible a more IT type will oblige. If there is more please post. All the best.

Ian:
The same two women appear in this shot and the voice-over announces "Miss Watson's MG Midget on the line..." Still not a certainty, but highly likely that Miss Watson is the driver. She had taken delivery earlier that same month.

Thanks for all the comments.
I fear the 'Rt Hon' part of her title appears to be an invention of a previous owner (de Cesaeris) when attempting to sell the car. I did a fair amount of genealogy on her and her family. Originally from the Midlands, her father was a wholesale grocer during WW1 and appears to have done well enough from it to retire shortly afterwards to Devon with his family. Neither he, not his daughter appear in any reference books indicating that there were any honours in the family. Unless you know different!

As an aside, can anyone identify the car she is driving in the first image? And, for those who dare comment, how on earth did she fit in a J type?

My guess Ian for your first photo is that Miss Watson is driving a 12/50 Alvis, possibly a beetle back given the slope of the tail and open lid behind Cheers, Tim

Definitely a circa 1925 Alvis 12/50. The cable driven Smiths wiper motor confirms it. |
