Tomorrow Saturday 15th October a Classic Car event takes place at Buckingham Palace to help celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday. This event should have taken place in June though postponed due to a lack of Met Police to organise security on that particular date. 90 British cars will take part, each one representing a year of The Queen's life.

My 4 seat 1934 MG PA was lucky enough to be chosen. I believe Colin Withers Montherly Midget C Type will represent 1931. Jim Andrews in a MG VA Tickford Coupe. Good to see the Pre War MG's having such a presence. A great honour and I am thrilled to be included. We are expected to be in clothes of the era.

Assemble at Wellington Barracks from 11am and then make our way under escort to the forecourt of The Palace for 1pm. If you are nearby they will be visible through the fence I'm told. HRH Prince Michael of Kent will inspect the cars on display and select 'Their Favorite Vehicle'. It will finish around 430pm.

Also taking part are, Simon Hope in a 1939 Bentley 4.25 litre Vanden Plas Tourer, Gary Welsby in a 1997 Caterham Super Seven, Jim Andrews in a 1939 MG VA Tickford Coupe, Owen John in a 1982 Aston Martin Lagonda Series 2, Herman Deroost in a 1951 Triumph Renown, David Toms in a 1968/69 3.5 litre Rover Coupe, Albert Fellner in a 1980 Carmargue, Michael Bork in a 1955 Lagonda 3 litre Drophead Coupe which used to belong to Prince Philip and which will be returning ‘home’ for the first time in years (the car made a world record of £350,000 at a recent H&H sale), and Sir Greg Knight MP driving a 1963 Jensen CV8.

Oh dear , Oh Dear, Oh dear . Tim , you have demoted our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth 2nd . She is NOT Her Royal Highness , but Her Majesty ! You are unlikely to lose your head over this , but be aware it can be very cold in the Tower of London at this time of year .

Absolutely right Fred. HM The Queen and HRH Prince Michael of Kent officiating. I do apologise. It's rare that I operate at these lofty heights in society. I won't edit my original article, but leave it there as a reminder to all and a public chastisement for me..

A great day out. Wellington Barracks just a 500 metre drive from the main gate of Buckingham Palace. We drove there and lined up in date order. MG's well represented being 3 out of 14 cars pre war cars. Colin Withers Montherly Midget C Type. Jim Andrews in his MG VA Tickford Coupe. A couple of 'newer' MGB's were further along the line.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent spent a couple of minutes chatting to the owners of all 90 cars. In through the gates at 1pm and out promptly at 430pm.

A privilege to be part of it. Thanks to Dick Moreby who having received notice from the organisers, put the invitation and contact details onto The Forum for all to apply. Having put so much work into The Triple M Register, I don't think anyone would have begrudged Dick using the invitation for himself.

It wasn't a competition as such, however at the end of day the organisers chose two cars worthy of mention. Both sets of owners received the same - a small cash prize from Peter Best Insurance - and an invitation to dine with the organisers in The House of Commons.

Both pre war, one a beautiful 1933 Jaguar SS100 - the other a green 1934 MG PA. Considering the caliber of cars present, to say I was stunned would be an understatement.

I'll brush up on rules of etiquette before being let loose in The Common's dining room.

Tim, never mind about getting the names of the Royal family right, they will get over it. However, getting the name of our club right is far more important, some of us may not be able to get over that.

I was under the impression that all the organisers in The House of Commons had left years ago.

Perhaps I miss read the post!!

Congratulations to Tim.

Well done Tim and Colin.
Nice to see the C Type shown by the Works mechanics. Is that Cec Cousins and Alec Hounslow ?
