Discussed in earlier posts, I have completed the prototype lead wheel hammer suitable for bronze alloy Rudge-Whitworth wheel spinners, here's what it looks like.
Went for sand castings in the end, and using a 50:50 alloy of lead and lead wheel weights (% of tin and antimony) recommended to me. This results in a slightly harder and more robust metal than straight lead - a sort of white metal.
Also shown the mould blocks before I put the 2mm taper, and the location pins in them.
About to get a few more heads cast to be able to make some hammers to order, please contact me if interested. The handles are hand carved to correct profile, in American hickory.
Hi Michael Thanks for interest. Working on a price should have this week. Total weight packed approx 2 kg so air P&P about GBP 25. Also need to check any restrictions or special requirements for shipping lead. Donald PB0759
Thanks Ian. Local postage service confirms cast lead allowed, pack well, and declare as 'metal wheel hammer for vintage car'. So looking good for now. Donald PB0759
