Hello,
Does anybody knows what MG type participated in the 1947 1000Miglia ? It was team 93 Cenacchi -Moretti and it was a standard looking pre-war MG, possibly a MG PB.
Has any one pictures of that car ?

The book Mille Miglia 1927 - 1957 by Giovanni Lurani notes there were 105 starters and 54 finishers but no mention of any MG.
The 750 class was won by a Fiat at 51.4 mph and the 1100 by a Lancia at 53.7 mph.
If an MG did start it could have been either a TA, a TB or a Triple-M?

There is a pic in the book Mille Miglia by (I think ) Mike Lawrence. I will check when I get access to the book, which is buried due to ongoing decorating...from memory, it is a standard looking PB with oversize tyres.
Regards, Graham

The reason for the oversize tyres is likely that they weren't actually ultimately for the MG. Tyres were still rationed in Italy in 1947, but MM entrants got a free set! |

To save Graham's time. Copied from the book that he mentioned.

Had to change the wheels to accommodate the oversize tyres. Look like 16 inch x 4 J to me. |

Just before the war, Michelin offered what were known as 'balloon' tyres which were low pressure, i.e. around 20 psi rather than 32 psi, and they were fitted to 16" wheels. Perhaps this is what is on the PB? The photo shows the Michelin tyre on an L2 at Craigantlet in 1936

Thank you Brian for that picture ! Which proves that is was an standard looking MG PB that started in the 1947 1000Miglia. It was indeed a DNF but it means that one day I'll do an application to enter my PB at the 1000Miglia...with the normal tyres ! If anybody still find other pictures of that car, please post them Thanks for the help

Back in the days when I was in my late teens/early twenties I had a TA which had those balloon tyres on it on 16" wheels, and was used in autocross. I'll try and find a picture.
