I've recently stripped down a differential that was in a P type. Replacing the pinion and differential bearings plus new spacers on the pinion. This is the first time I've worked on a differential unit and having read through the archives here (I entered "pinion bearings" in the search.) I decided to have a go myself.

Everything went well. Big exception. When I dismantled the unit the differential bearings were installed with their thrust faces pointing out. Comparing it with a K type dif. that is on the shelf I note that their thrust faces seem to be installed facing in.

Which is correct?

Furthermore;

On looking at the diagram in M. Alison's article this to me indicates that the thrust face faces inside.

Presumably I'm answering my own question correctly.

Brian.
