I'm interested in identifying this car and hopefully who now owns it. My mother produced two scrap books for the 1937 and 1938 competition seasons .These are now family treasures containing newspaper and magazine cutouts. Included is a small photo of JB 7963 at the start of the 1938 Crystal Palace Plate. A Le Mans start, driven by Miss Stanley Turner. The car looks like a PA (no slatted radiator).12"brakes, no front mounted blower, folded P windscreen, cycle wings, bucket seats, very pansy white wall tyres. No 1 in the race. Anyone any info? Thanks Tony |

Tony, this must be PB0633, which Miss Stanley-Turner raced at Le Mans. It is now in Switzerland.

In the 1937 Le Mans on the 19 - 20th June, Dorothy Stanley Turner and Joan Riddell finished 16th overall covering a distance of 2082.62 km.

Was this a handicap race ? - All the other drivers are lined up on the other side, while Dorothy is climbing abound through the passenger door ?.
We are here for a good time, not a long time !. |

That's definitely the car Mark, but my picture shows an athletic lady in white overalls dashing across the road from the right hand side, no-one in the car. |

"Wilkie" on the far left, looking on. (For what it's worth)

Why get in the car on the 'wrong' side. Could it be the end of a pre-race check?

Certainly the quickest way into a J1 with bucket seats is to jump the door, stand on the seat and slide down. This is more elegant done from the passenger side, unless of course you collect the gear lever up a trouser leg.

Not sure that "Wilkie" was attending to Dorothy Stanley-Turner for this race. He was still with Bellevue in 1937 whereas Miss S-T favoured Thompson & Taylor. Perhaps he had discovered that if he turned up in his white overalls and carrying a bucket of water, he could get in free.
