I have been exchanging e-mails with Colin Crichton after buying a copy of Blower. Colin owned this J1 in the late 50s.
Colin was based at RAF Buchan during his National Service and purchased the car from Pilot Officer Joe Maw in 1958 for £50. Prior to that it was brought to the mainland from the Shetland Isles by another officer. He sold the car in 1960 for a nominal profit of £5 to a young man in Newport, Fife.
The car had been roughly treated, crudely converted to 2 seater after a rear end fire by earlier owners and hand painted green with Japlac enamel. The front end appears to be in fair condition in the photo but the rear wings don't look original.
Colin has fond memories of the car and fears it may not have survived but would be interested to know if there is any earlier or subsequent history of the car.
