I seem to be having a "senior moment" but I can't remember the modern grade of oil to put in the back axle of an N type! I do remember that certain oils can attack bronze cages on bearings!
Is Castrol Hypol EP90 or a sae140 ok?

Rod,
You can use SAE140 GL4, it is on a zinc base.
Dont use a GL5 thats has a sulpher base and attack yellowmetal.
EP90 is a hypoidoil and is normaly a GL5.

Roel.

As well as Castrol D140, Morris do straight gear oils including 140. You will see Morris engine and gear oils on sale at many autojumbles. It is very popular with old car nuts.

Also remember not to put too much oil in the diff. Just showing on the bottom part of the dipstick is enough.

I have no connection with Morris.

I always use the Moriss' 140 in the rear axle of my N - its nice and sticky and keeps the diff nice and quiet.
EP 90 is too thin and not really suitable for non Hypoid type transmissions - it also leaks out more readily and MG's dont need any help with oil cooled rear brakes!
