The following extract from 'The Autocar Handbook 1941'.


Considering how often oil changes were recommended on pre-war cars, there must be many thousands of gallons of dirty oil out there still leaching into the water table. Might be valuable soon. I'm now off into the garden with a spade.

Surprised at that John, in the middle of the war I would have expected another use could have been found for it.

Used oil is free outdoor wood stain/preservative for rough-sawn timber!

Well Mark it is vegtable oil right?
I'd say it is an organic preservative so you can market it for big bucks to the local garden center and recoup some of the racing costs ;)
