Does anyone have original felt oil filters that I could buy?

Tim, is this the one from S&V?

Part No 2699 £22

Replacement Oil Filter J4, P,L,N,K

This exciting part is a straight replacement for the original Tecalemit felt filter,

it just pops straight into the Filter body, and there is no need for any additional platform adaptor,

other than the original base (part no 1941 if required). With it filtering down to 8 microns, it has twice the filtration properties

of the Fram Mercedes type and other like for like filters(15-20 microns), and has been incredibly popular

Tim, the M only has a metal wire strainer. Various kits are available for fitting modern filters - definitely recommended.

As described, the original (above) contains the metal strainer.

Barrie Dean's oil filter adaptor is very neat and uses a Renault Clio oil filter. It certainly works very well on an M-type with a little re-plumbing.

Nice pipework Sam!
Yes, any fine filter on the suck side is not a good idea, and sometimes leads to low oil pressure because of air getting in. If you want to know if that is occurring, dribble some oil out of the pressure gauge tap, and see if it is cloudy.

This adaptor is not suitable for a P-type.
