I would be interested in a pair of HV2 1" 1/8. Possibility to meet in Beaulieu.

Just for clarity, if you are after 1 1/8" SU's then they would be HV1 not HV2 which would be 1 1/4"

From the Burlen Website: http://sucarb.co.uk/technical-su-carburetters

"It has been made in horizontal and semi-downdraught form with throttle disc sizes ranging from 1 in. to 2 in. diameter. As with all current S.U. carburettors its size is designated by the type letter followed by a number. This number indicates the diameter of the butterfly, and is the number of eighths of an inch that the diameter is larger than 1 in., e.g. an H1 instrument has a bore of 1 in. and an H8 has a bore of 2 in.

I don't understand what you mean.

On the Burlen homepage the body for a HV2 has the size of 1" 1/8: http://sucarb.co.uk/hv2-918-body-assembly.html

A HV1 would be 1" and a HV3 has the size of 1" 1/4

In your posted text it even says "an H1 instrument has a bore of 1 in.", so what is the problem?

Burlin's statement is correct for later H, HS and subsequent types. However, the early 1930's HV series was one eighth out of step, so an HV2 is 1 1/8, and the HV5 fitted to the J4 was 1 1/2, not the 1 5/8 that many assume when building replicas.
H1's are easier to find than HV2's, as they were fitted through to the 1960's. I have a pair on my Riley and they look fine. Happy hunting.

David

Ahh; you learn something every day. My apologies for the confusion, I now see.
Thanks,

The pre-war HV series was not so much out of step, as it also used the 1/8" increment principle, it's just that the smallest size was the HV0 which was a 7/8" diameter throttle. So the next size up was the HV1 (1" dia) etc.

What Burlen say on their website is still however muddled: "e.g. an H1 instrument has a bore of 1 in. and an H8 has a bore of 2 in."

This would actually make H8 1 7/8" rather than 2" Perhaps they have mixed pre and post-war nomenclature?

Please don't forget MGuy's original request for HV2 1 1/8" as a result of this thread tangent.
