J3067 looks like a "new" car to the Register.

The record shows it was delivered on 5th April 1933 to G E Rostron of Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire (original colour red/black) - not far from you Ray.

Perhaps you knew the owner

That's a nice honest looking car and the write up reads very well. It will be interesting to see what it fetches.

Is it me or does it just look very cheap and like a kit car? Maybe it's the way the photos have been taken but doesn't look appealing like MGs usually do.
I can say this as I don't know who made it but the interior is terrible, that should knock some off the asking price :-)

"Original" colour ? Red and Black ?? I don't think so.

The cars original colour was black, as stamped on the bonnet hinge. The reference to red is the upholstery colour.

Peter and a J3096 a green, green, green car, with the 1st colour the car colour, the 2nd the upholstery colour and the 3rd the wheels.
If only two colours mentioned then the wheels were normally the upholstery colour. Aluminium/silver wheels were not used on J types.

I reckon it would of had Dark Red/Maroon trim.
It's possible that some MMM cars were originally trimmed in a brighter Red but I was under the impression Bright Red wasn't a factory trim colour until TAs.

Now then George !. I may look as though l was born in 1933 or even before but that event took place almost 18 months after this car was delivered.
However, there is a Rostron lin Cheadle Hulme listed in a telephone directory of a few years ago so l will ring the number and see if there is any connection with the J2.

The factory records reveal that the car was originally black with red trim. The bonnet hinge stamping with its 'BK' confirms black.

The car was offered for sale at the Bonhams Beaulieu auction a year ago where it sold for £28,750 inc premium. See https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24121/lot/525/

Hi Ray

It would be amazing if you manage to contact the Rostron listed in the Cheadle Hulme directory - it is a rare surname and they could well be a relation?

Sorry about getting the colour combination the wrong way round, black with red upholstery was a popular choice for the Triple-M cars, my own L2 was and is the same combination.

I also thought the J2 looks a bit strange, maybe it is the photos which have distorted the rear wings and made them look a bit bulbous?

Wings !

The rear ones are not correct I wonder what they are off. The front ones are also not correct. All in all the car is a good basis for a restoration I would suggest.

Don't fancy being the passenger, just imagine a pretty young thing having battery acid drip on her clothing and have her dress slowly dissolve.
Would her father believe the story when she arrived home in her knickers.

A lot of the attention to detailing is wrong on this car. It's not a £28K car to the trained MMM eye.
