No, an Irish dish, made by combining mashed potatoes and chopped spring onion with butter, milk, cheese and optionally, salt and pepper.

No cheese or cream please in proper champ! It's a peasant dish.

I've eaten buckets of the stuff, long long before it became elevated to cult fare in fancy restaurants. You gently boil the chopped scallions (ok spring onions) in a little milk until soft, add the resulting liquid and bits to the hot cooked spuds and mix to a creamy mush. Make a pile on the plate, pop a decent lump of butter on top and enloy. That's all.
