Dave, I think the photo of Bongazoo is fairly recent, it is wearing Blockley tyres, the Bongazoo radiator badge can be seen. Archie Craig was an owner before Tim Hunt, maybe he built it, he did race other MGs possibly in the 60s or 70s.
Tim Hunt's article on Bongazoo in the 1980 yearbook answers a lot of the questions asked in this topic. Interestingly BVX 80 is featured on the front cover looking very much like a standard P Type, a style it had discarded in the late 1940s / early 1950s - no ANPR cameras in those day!! There is another picture of Tim driving the car in the rain at Silverstone (page 8) which clearly shows the shape of the rear bodywork in my opinion it is very different to the shape shown in the Classic Le Mans photo. Very interesting car, lets hope someone can fill in the missing history. Neil
I agree Neil. I'm hoping that Colin Butchers or Peter Green will put me out of my misery! in the meantime I must venture into the loft and root out the yearbook.
Just checked WCH477 on DVLA; "Vehicle details could not be found"
The late Nigel Musselwhite did indeed build and race a replica of EX120, I think the only original part might have been the block? The car was built using chassis D0460 - there is a photo in the pictures page - owners cars.
There will be photos of the car being used in competition reports of the Yearbooks of the time.
I believe the replica is in a Japanese museum where there is a suggestion the car is ex 120?
