I see in the cars for sale that Bonhams are to auction a K1 Saloon in need of renovation, with an estimate of £15000 to £20000. Let's hope the world stock of "K3s" isn't about to increase! Hopefully the K2 they are also offering is sufficiently rare to escape a similar fate? Or perhaps not?

Same sentiments from me.
I am aware of one K2 - one of only 20 built - which was changed to k3 style.

Hopefully both the K1 & K2 will remain what they are - rather than being butchered into K3 look-a-likes - or more precisely: vandalised into K3 look-a-likes.

The solution to preventing new owners doing what they want with their cars rather than what others might want is simple - buy them yourself ![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

Simon I would have loved to. Just can’t afford to. So for us less fortunate could the new owner please keep it a saloon so we can enjoy the sight

Dear Forum:
N630 Dumbiron
Can somebody please explain the process of the dumbiron change? Accident damage but why K number to N number. Is there documentation at factory record level? There must be more to the story. All the best.

In reply to John's query, NA0630 was a two seat N type which does not appear to have survived. It is possible that the saloon was involved in an accident and the damaged knuckle replaced with that from NA0630 which would have been stamped N 0630. I am not sure if there is a difference between K and N knuckles.
I feel the selling price achieved for the K2 is a fair reflection of both it's rarity and the current market which has "softened" a little of late, fairly priced cars still sell; for example the recent asking price for a K type rebuilt in the style of a K3 is in my opinion too high
The K saloon looks to be very original and good value. As we all hope it will be rebuilt as a saloon. I wonder how many pillarless saloons survive?

Wow, I know these cars, which were owned for many years by my friend Mike Waggot. I have been out of touch with Mike for several years, but he was rebuilding a the K1 saloon for a long time. I can only assume that he has given up on it, although I thought he had done much work on the bodywork. I'm sad to see that lovely, mostly original, K2 leave Scotland, but it hasn't been seen out and about for years. Here are some photos from nearly 30 years ago.

Dick and Colin and Forum:
Thank-you Dick for your explanation . Colin very nice period photographs. If not already in car file. Please be sure they are uploaded to car file.
Colin; as you have first hand knowledge of the car. Can you explain the accident /knuckle replacement part of the story? Is the car otherwise original K? except for the knuckle.? How is this car to be described please? Thank-you again.

I've just learned that these cars were being sold by Mike's estate, so sadly he is no longer with us. I've called on his house a couple of times in the last few years, but there was never anyone in. Mike was a lovely, gentle man, and had owned these cars for many years before I met him in the early 90's.
I'm afraid I can't shed any light on the knuckle replacement - that was news to me. Mike always referred to it as a K1 saloon. Here's a photo he sent me some years ago of the engine going back into it after a rebuild.

As you can just see, the body was off at that time.
Here's my CSI attempt at "enhancing" the front chassis leg, but I can't see the join (as Eric might say to Ernie).
![](http://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/uploads/Colin McLachlan/201949104431_Mike WaggotXs engine X2X.jpg) And what the hell is that attached to the brake drum?
Edit: Now having looked at the Bonham photos, I'm not sure if that's the K1 or the K2 getting the engine fitted. I see that Nick (presumably) has already added my photos.
