Sadly, less than the number of sides to the octagon !.
We are here for a good time, not a long time !. |

Pat,
I own and use YC7352, a Sportsman's Coupe, it is a reproduction created by Richard Lee during the early 2000's.
It was built up on a 1929 M type chassis. A full account of the building was published in the April 2017 edition of The Automobile. Far better to build a reproduction coupe than yet another double twelve, also a far more demanding undertaking.
It is rather cramped inside compared to an open M type, space in the foot well being especially so. Richard told me he drove it in his bare feet! I have made a pair of ballet shoes after getting the welt of my shoe caught under the centre accelerator pedal. One mod I have made is to convert the accelerator pedal into an organ pedal type which has helped.
Will post some photos when I next have it out of the garage. |

And we have 3 registered on the NAMMMR plus one University 4some Coupe and one 2 seater factory built on a coupe chassis (at the behest of John Thornley).

Pat, I will come back to you in a day or two after the Easter holiday.
Chris, YC7352 is in fact the car that Barry Walker had at Stoneleigh.

Thanks for that information, David.
I was very taken up with the car and if I had not been committed to what I have, could easily have been tempted to buy it !
Cheers,
Chris |

With the photo I have of coupe's looks like there are about 8 complete and 2 under restoration. And quite a few that have been made into standard M Types.l have started a small sportsman coupe data base. A very select ownership. Cheers pat.

I have an original Sportsman’s Coupe that I found in a hotel in Manchester. The car was a complete wreck but was beautifully restored in Switzerland. I have owned it for about twenty four years now, and use as much of my allowed annual mileage as possible. Anyone restoring or building a reproduction coupe is welcome to come and see mine if it would help. I live in Buckinghamshire. |

Hi Pat, as you'll know the Coupe was likely to have been the for-runner to the D,J & F type Salonettes. Similarly these too are scarce with my D-type being the only one. I can hardly set up a group for myself but would ask if there is mileage in collecting the salonette number along with the coupes? As we know there are simularities but not the same, so it would be great to share & document the differences.
.. just cant get the photo set at the right orientation sorry

I can add little to what has already been said as far as the register is concerned! There are three coupes CM2382, CM2917 and CM2981 and the 'University Motors" car, CM2483. Interestingly all have high chassis numbers. There are many coupe chassis which have standard two seater bodies and those built in the style of 12/12 and Le Mans cars. Most famously the Monte Carlo Rally car rebuilt at the works, the Peter Thornley now has. 2M0246 is the only coupe built on a 2 seater chassis 2M0246. (A 2 seater that a friend of mine had in the 1960s)! There are other coupes on the register but they have not been seen for a long time. Would like to see a photo of your car so far Pat, please.
