Currently doing research but know I need at least the following: 4 x Hartford dampers Hood frame Hood Pair of headlights Headlight bar and uprights Bench seat and backrest Exhaust Door catches Rear chassis shroud Rear wing brackets Plenty of time and effort!!
Any help with locating these parts would be appreciated. I’m located in South Hants TIA Trevor

some of the parts you require are dependent upon the year of manufacture of your M . Date of Birth would be a good start -Good Luck in your search - Rich |

The build date was December 1930 and was originally a saloon but is now bodied (possibly it’s 3rd body)as a 2 seater sports. Trevor

Trevor,
I recommend that you get familiar with how to use the forum archive, as many of the problems that you might encounter have already been aired here and much experience shared. Mike, our Registrar, will be pleased to have details of your car if you haven't registered it yet. The files may reveal some history that you are unaware of.
As regards spares, your list covers the full spectrum from "unobtainium" through to "readily available". You will get familiar with the specialists listed elsewhere on this site but I think you can get Hartfords from Sports and Vintage. Body parts including rear shrouds are made by Steve Gilbert. Ian Judd a.k.a. "BlueM" on the forum has just made a batch of exhaust downpipes but I don't know if he still has any; the rest is just standard components, e.g. silencer from an early post-war Midget. Seats can be made up by a trimmer if you supply the plywood backboards (plenty of forum "previous" on this). Getting the original headlamp uprights ("stanchions"), door catches and headlights may take a while, but close equivalents of the latter two are not difficult to find and will get you on the road. I think a batch of stanchions was made in the past but I'm not sure if any are still available. The cross-bar is just straight steel tube. Rear wing brackets comprise a cranked rod threaded at the chassis end and they use the same wing attachments as the front (unless you have the later metal body). Again there have been previous helpful threads on this. See the archive also for the hood and frame, which are very basic. Few owners use them because of the difficulty of seeing out of the car with them erected and unless your body is the later one with the short boot lid, the hood and frame spend most of their lives stowed in the boot!
As the M Type was based on the pre-war Morris Minor, we are also welcomed as members of the Pre-war Minor Network, which is another forum well worth joining. There is also a quarterly gathering of Home Counties owners which generally meets for lunch within striking distance of Gosport, e.g. West Surrey, North Sussex. With much commonality of chassis and mechanical parts, Morris specialists can also help with spares.
Good luck and don't be afraid to ask.
