Not sure I have the right terms here, but one of the "tangs or pivots" that holds my reverse stop is broken off and I haven't been able to "glue" it back. Does anyone have a fix for this or is some one remanufacturing the towers? and yes I did an archive search but given the difference between "English" and "American" I might have missed it........! Thanks Terry in Oakland, CA
I think I know what you mean - but glueing won't work adequately.
I suggest you either look for a replacement component or, have the broken piece welded back in place. Most competent welderd can do this for you - look for a race car team or similar specialist welder who do a lot of aluminium welding. They sould use TIG equipment - this transfers less heat and gives a better finish than the simple and cheaper MIG welding.
Oakland leaves you quite well placed for such specialists - alternatively look for a foods or pharmaceuticals supplier as they would also have the specialist welding equipment for aluminium.
Anyone tried "Lumiweld" for this type of job? It's the equivalent of a hard solder but doesn't need flux, just a very clean surface. I use it for making up ali trays etc. from sheet but the ads say you can repair flanges etc.
I agree with Bob that Lumiweld would be perfect for this type of repair but it requires some practice to get it right before you go on to repair your casting. Also if you have already tried something like superglue or a two part epoxy you will have to clean the joint very thoroughly before attempting a further repair.
I had the same problem with the pivots holding the reverse stop for my PA. The pivots were both broken off where the small axle goes through. I managed to find an experienced welder for aluminium who built up two new pivots using TIG welding. I then filed them to shape and redrilled the holes. Bob
Thanks guys for all the suggestions....we have some excellent welders here who formerly worked at a now closed Naval Air Station.... Terry in Oakland, CA
