Nice to see the photo on the front cover. Coincidentally I have just finished the sign below. I was wanting a MG sign for my garage and but could not find anything a little bit different until I came across the photo of the old Abingdon works. So after a little bit of judgement for scale, proportion and size, I produced the sign below. It measures 6' by 2'6" overall
Interestingly after finding a number of similar photo, it would appear that the sign has been replaced and modified a number of times over the buildings life.

Great job, Trevor !
Looking at the photograph of the sign on the factory wall I was wondering whether the sign was illuminated ? There appears to be a feed of some sort just above the ‘ G ‘.
Cheers,
Chris |

The 1960's image appears to show that the sign outline, at least, was painted on the wall, and is still lurking behind the new 'poster'.

The letters are seen to be casting shadows on a painted background.

What a pity the picture was not in colour.

I bought this sign at an autojumble early this year. It has obviously been made up but on the back it has a label saying bbc Yorkshire television 1979 and a stencil saying bbc props dept, as can be seen on one of the pictures. Can anybody identify which programme this was probably used for?
