Greetings, first off many thanks to the Triple M Register for all the helpful material and being a good daily read especially during these difficult times.

2M662 which my father purchased in 1982 is a non standard body. I appreciate modifications/ changes common but a few things on the car seem interesting. The firewall has the circular UML claim plate of MG2306 #373 and the bonnet has the stamp 0491 BK.

I wondered if the bonnet could have come from D491 when it became a C?. DVLA license plate search of MG2306 did not return a car.

2M662 had UK registration UW6265 and the claim plate led to the car's official VIN being MG2306373 following an MOT inspection in the 90s.

We have the county log book/sheet from 1971 for the car showing 4 owners upto 1976 and the DVLA form from 1918 saying it was first (re)registered in 1980. 2 owners before my father. All the history shows the engine to be 11046A and chassis 662 as now. First registration date of the car says 3 Dec 1929.

Whatever its history it is still a hoot to drive receiving lots of smiles and waves on the northern Virginia roads over the last few weeks.

Cheers, James

Glad you are enjoying the car! 2M0662 was originally a Blue 2 seater and the engine number was 470A, with a build date of 9 October 1929, one of the last Oxford built cars! Its original registration was indeed UW 6265 in Salop area, and the records are still available at the Shrewsbury records office! The 3 December 1929 may well be the date it was first registered and may well be helpful in tracing the original owner!
Now we come to the difficult parts!
An engine number of 11046A sounds like a Morris Minor replacement, and the 0461 BK on the bonnet is a replacement from I think 2M0461, but that car was Red, and I always thought that BK was 'Black'!
The UML was University Motors Limited, and was, I think their reference number, but not sure!
The car was owned in the 1960s, with 2M0848, so the two may have become mixed, but none of your numbers suggest this!
My notes also say that it has a J2 gearbox! Lucky chap!!

Many thanks Mike, Indeed a 4 speed. Serial # 5001/R with original ratio stamp of 4/14

I apologise for the poor photo of the UML plate. I can upload a close up if anyone is interested. I also transposed the year of the DoT registration document - I meant 1981.

As to the bonnet it is 34 1/2 inches long with 2 sets of louvres and I think the stamp is 0491BK not 0461.

Looking forward to an early morning drive tomorrow to see the professionals about the hydraulic brakes - the route there is uphill.

Cheers, James

Engine 11046A is a Minor engine, from around July 1929.
