I'm looking for a SU piston to pair with my existing carb should anyone have a spare before I contact Burlen. It is the weighted type and has 928A stamped on the inside flange. Any help appreciated.
Thanks Bernard

Bernard,
Are you sure that it has 928A stamped on it? When I did a small survey of piston weights a few years ago, some of them were 982A but none of them were 928A. Also, the ones marked 982A were the lightest at around 165-175 gm.

P.S. I assume these are for HV2 1 1/8” carbs?

Simon,
Yes my mistake, it should be 982A (all the right notes just not in the right order)It weighs in at 173-4 gm so you are spot on. As you also noted it is for an early bronze carb 1 1/8" to make a pair. If you or anyone knows of one going spare please let me know.
Thanks
Bernard

Bernard,
As luck would have it,I found this in my small box of SU bits and bobs. I can’t imagine having any use for it myself as they don’t tend to wear out so I’m sure we can come to some arrangement over it. If it’s of interest, drop me a line - my email address is in my profile (click on my user name to get there) - and we’ll sort something out.

I have a 982a which weighs in at 172gm and a 3171/1 at135gm . Several months ago I discovered a mismatch on my own NB and was able to fit a matched pair but did not take a note of numbers or weights . Tomorrow I will remove a dashpot and see but meanwhile is there any one out there to describe which should be fitted to a standard NB ? I hasten to add that the car is functioning well. Should the ones on the car be correct I will have the 982a spare

When I was doing my little survey a few years ago, Gerard Maier was kind enough to send me details of the pistons in his ND which were 3170 and 155 gm.

Hi Simon and Rapide,
Thank you both for your replies and I will be in touch off forum.
Whilst looking for a match I noted that almost identical pistons behaved differently due to the varying size of the small suction hole. Probably covered in earlier posts but worth noting.
Thanks again Bernard.

An interesting point, Bernard, which I don’t recall being mentioned before. Thanks.
