Ebay volumex now just under ú500 with 12 hours to go! Might be cheaper to buy a scrap car just for the Volumex. Might be possible to break even by selling off the other parts of the car.

You can still buy brand new ones from Fiat - Ok they are a lot more expensive but at least they are not scarce.

Did you also know that there is a larger size blower?
Fitted to the 037 and Delta this larger blower used to give 10 psi at 1.3 engine speed on a 2 litre engine.

I didn't know you could still buy new ones!! How much are they?
I ended up going the Derek Chinn route - he'll make any size you want... at a price! Very nice quality though & an extremely knowledgable and helpful chap to deal with.

The standard Volumex is around ú 2,000.00 + VAT - you will also need to do some modifications to it (drive etc) but this is the same with a second hand unit.

The Chinn blowers are a much more efficient unit - lighter and give bigger bangs for buck too.

David,

If the Chinn blower is lighter and more efficient than a Volumex why has your sister changed from a Chinn blower to a Volumex on her N type? Does Derek Chinn make a blower with a similar swept volumn as a Volumex?

Peter.

They're not necessarily lighter than the Volumex, but you have to bear in mind that most Volumex's seem to be driven at more than engine speed with step-up gears as they have a swept volume of about 1100cc (which is considered too low if driven at engine speed on a 1300-1500cc motor).

A secondhand 037 unit is usually a similar price to a new standard Volumex unit.

For those who are considering installing a Volumex, we are now very close to casting up the new "Volumex 7 fit manifold set". This is purpose designed for J/L/P models especially whereby the outlet pipe travels in line with the chassis rail, ie no need to cut and re-set the angles, and it can also incorporated a boss to take a secondary blow-off valve on the underside. The carb/ blower manifold has also been designed to stagger the carb further back.

There will be more photos posted very shortly of the pattern developments on the www.vintageMGparts.com website. We are now up to 9 provisional orders.
