Hello all, I hope you forgive my intrusion, but I found this very informative forum and wondered if you could help me? I'm a writer and I'm currently researching the 1932 Ards TT. I'm interested in the three Midgets entered by (then) Maj A.T. Goldie Gardner, cars numbered 30,31 and 32. I have tried to find these on the register, but can't identify them. 30 was driven by H.C. 'Hammy' Hamilton, 31 by Randolph Jeffries and 32 by ATGG. I'd be very grateful for any information on these cars. Many thanks indeed, John Mayhead |

Car no. 30 was actually C0279. Hammy crashed it in practice and the no. was transferred to C0257 which had come along to Ulster as a spare car. Because Hammy was too badly injured to drive, Barnes took his place. Hammy and his mechanic were wheeled out to the roadside to watch the race. Subsequently Barnes crashed C0257 as well. As did Gardner his C0256.
Cheers, Cat

Hammy with the Marquis de Belleroche about to set off on a practice lap in C0279 (before they crashed, obviously!).
Copies of the 2016 Yearbook are still available from the Librarian, as is The Hawke History of MMM Competition Cars - see https://triple-mshop.org/

Fantastic, thank you! I note that the Hawke History is out of print, but I should like to buy one when they return.

Ordinarily, I’d have posted this in the 'Information about a picture' Forum but it seemed relevant to put it here. I was given this just yesterday with a request to confirm the identities of the gentlemen. The photo was taken at the time of the 32 TT. From the left we have Cecil Kimber, Cyril Paul, Goldie Gardner, Hammy Hamilton and ...?
I’ve taken to watermarking pictures from now on as I see no reason why they should be available free to anyone passing by. Once pictures and documents are properly secured behind the login and password where they are simply not visible to the passerby, or to Google, then watermarks wouldn’t ordinarily be necessary.

Thanks, Cathelijne!
P.S. Just for the record, Gardner entered three cars to be driven by himself, Hamilton and Jeffress with Paul as the nominated reserve driver for all three cars. So in the photo we have the full Gardner team, plus Kimber. Nice!

Hi Simon, I'd be delighted to. I write for Hagerty, and a couple of years ago visited the site of the Jabbeke speed trials for a story. I was fascinated by the achievements of those who drove there, and became interested in Goldie Gardner. It transpired that there were some connections to my own family history: Gardner and my grandfather fought in the same battle of Flers Courcellette in 1916, were both awarded gallantry medals at the same time and were both badly injured in the leg within weeks of one another. The interest in the Ards TT stems from the connection to my wife's family, who come from Northern Ireland. quote: Originally posted by Simon Johnston

In the event, Paul drove C0253 and Jeffress, the owner, didn't drive at all.

Johnny. Of the four C Types which entered the 1932 TT race, one is in Sweden, another is in the middle of a comprehensive rebuild, one has not been heard of for many years, but C0256 (the Gardner car) is very much alive and well and still races very frequently. The car lives in north Hampshire and I am sure that an intro could be arranged if you wanted to feature the actual car in your writings. Colin B. |

Thank you all for your help, and I'd love to see C0256! I've sent a couple of direct emails.

Hello Johnny, how interesting to read your post, I am glad you discovered the forum !
We have very nearly finished the restoration of C0253,the no. 31 car that Cyril Paul drove in '32 (and Norman Black in '31). We being my father David Potter and I. I am really writing on his behalf as I suspect he will not have seen your forum post. But, I know that he would be very pleased to hear from you and share the information we have about the car....
Can I suggest sending me an e;mail and I will put you in touch with father... potterduncan@gmail.com.
Best wishes, Duncan.
