What is the number (331) on the wood frame (left) under tha dashboard of an mg PA? And what is the meaning of the body No 315/719 on the Mg Pa 1121 Triple M registration? Thanks Francesco
The number on the scuttle wooden piece is the Carbodies body number. It is a roughly sequential number within certain sequences based on body type. It has no correlation to the MG body number on the brass tag.
Your car (PA1121) was originally a four-seater tourer and its original body numbers were as follows: 315 (This is the MG Car Company's serial number for the body tub) 719 (This is the manufacturer (Carbodies) serial number for that same body tub)
As your car is now a 2-seater it is possible that some or all of its body tub was donated by a different car.
The number stamped on the horizontal timber rail inside the body tub was the Carbodies number, as Lew states.
Carbodies tub number 331 was originally in PA0657, a 2-seater PA. The chassis of that car was offered for sale by the dealer Barry Bone around 2002 and we know it still exists.
However we do not know what happened to the discarded body tub. Perhaps it was used to replace the original 4-seater body of your car? Perhaps we shall never know!
I will contact you off line to try to update our Register records of your car.
